Rara lake is the biggest and the deepest fresh water lake of Nepalese Himalayas which lies at an altitude of 2990m(9810 ft) above the sea level having the maximum depth of 167m(548 ft). It covers the Jumla and Mugu districts of western Nepal.It has been a very popular tourist destination for trekkers because of its uniqueness in cultural and natural scenery.
Rara Lake has been serving as the main attraction of the Rara National Park. Situated in high altitude, you can find the lake surrounded by Rara National Park with pine, spruce and juniper forest. The views of the majestic mountains from the lake is just amazing and catches the eyes and heart of every people. Rara lake is like a diamond set in a ring of white snow capped mountains.The glimpses of natural and cultural scenery,unique flora and fauna of rare and vunerable species on the way makes the trek relaxing escape away from brustling cities.
Rara lake,being surrounded by Rara National Park is the home for 1074 species of flora,51 species of mammals and 214 species of birds.People living here are mostly engaged in agriculture,animal rearing and pluck out the medicinal herbs for their daily living.This trek begins with the flight from Jumla or from nearer Nepalgunj.The best time to visit the Queen of Lakes is from September to October and April to May.
